Club Atlético River Plate has announced its decision not to participate in the meetings of the AFA's Executive Committee, citing a lack of transparent decision-making procedures. The club, which has advocated for a 20-team league model since 2013, expressed support for the non-profit model and concern over the current governance of the AFA.

River Plate to suspend participation in AFA meetings

Club Atlético River Plate has issued an official statement clarifying its position on its institutional relationship with the Argentine Football Association (AFA). Since 2013, River Plate has consistently advocated for a clear vision for the future of national football, including the consolidation of a professional league with 20 teams and an economic structure that promotes the growth of all clubs. The club also reaffirmed its support for the non-profit civil association model and expressed its recognition of the AFA's defense of the current pension contribution system for the sport. In this sense, the Núñez-based institution believes in the harmonious functioning of institutions and the importance of collegiate bodies for decision-making. However, River expressed concern that the current functioning of the AFA's Executive Committee does not provide sufficient procedural guarantees to ensure clear and predictable decision-making processes. For this reason, and until these mechanisms are corrected, the club has decided not to participate in the AFA Executive Committee meetings. Our institution believes that discussions about the future of Argentine football must take place through clear and predictable procedures: with topics included on the agenda with due notice and subjected to a vote by the corresponding members.
